Roger Mayweather

Roger Mayweather has lived and breathed boxing almost his entire life. “It’s all I’ve ever known and all I’ve ever wanted to know,” he said. The former world champ has stayed connected with the boxing game by becoming a trainer and mentoring rising stars as well as his nephew, pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Boxing is certainly in the Mayweather bloodline, brothers Roger, Jeff and Floyd Sr. all had successful careers in the ring.

Mayweather, known as the “Black Mamba” in his day was a knock-out specialist. Out of his 59 wins in his professional career, 35 were KO’s. In his first professional fight, Mayweather proved he was ready for the big stage. He TKO’d his opponent in round one which was only a hint of things to come in a successful career. Mayweather went on to win two major boxing titles, the WBA Super Featherweight belt and the WBC Light Welterweight belt.

Cornelius “Boza” Edwards

For Cornelius “Boza” Edwards, boxing has taken him around the world and back again finally landing him in Las Vegas as a trainer at the Mayweather Boxing Gym. However, it was a long path get where he is now.

As an amateur, he traveled Europe fighting in Germany, France, Denmark, Russia and Hungary. After a 1976 Olympic appearance, Edwards turned pro and years later became the WBC Super Featherweight Champion as the seven to one underdog. When asked what it meant to win a championship Edwards exclaimed “Everything. Being on top of the world was like walking on water.” Edwards fought on and finished with an overall pro record of 45-7-1 with 34 KO’s.

Edwards is far from an underdog outside the ring. He is an intelligent man who says if he wasn’t boxing he’d be an engineer. His smarts trickled down to his three daughters as well. They all have graduated from respectable universities, a point of pride for Edwards.
